Reifenstein Castle
Open from 5th April until 4th November 2012. Saturday closed.
The Castle can be visited on the following Saturdays: 7. 7th April, 26th May, 11th and 18th August, 3rd November. |
The Castle can only be visited with a guided tour. Guided tours (at least 4 persons) at 10.30 a.m., 2 and 3 p.m.. From 15th July until 15th September additional guided tour at 4 p.m. Duration ca. 1 hour. Prices 2012: Adults € 7.– Children 6-13 years € 4.-
Reifenstein Castle is located on a hill south-west from Vipiteno. The southern end of the Castle is protected by a defensive wall, while at the northern end there is a complex front section with a pointed arch door, portcullis (renewed), wall walks, windows and loop-holes. The deep moat between the front section and the castle itself is connected by a historic drawbridge. Next to the Castle there is the little St. Zeno church first documented in 1330, at which Bajuwaric tree trunk coffins dating back to the 4th to 8th century have been found. The Castle cannot be visited.

The Hunting and Fishing Museum of South Tyrol in Mareta.
The museum is open from 1st April until 15th November, Tuesday to Saturday from
10 a. m. until 5 p.m. Last admission at 4.30 p.m. Monday closed. |
Wolfsthurn Castle offers historical and cultural information about wildlife as well as folk art relating to hunting and fishing. There is a special play area where children can learn about deer antlers, bear caves, animal calls and tracks.
On the upper floor of the Castle are the grand rooms with their original baroque furnishings that can be visited.
There is a pleasant one-kilometre-long themed path "Forest and Water" leading from the village of Mareta to the Castle. The walkway winds through a fallow deer reserve and is suitable for prams and wheelchairs. |
